Effectiveness of Intimate Partner Violence Policies:

Advances, Challenges and Comparative Perspectives

Context

Intimate partner violence against women remains one of the most severe contemporary social problems, transcending cultural, institutional, and political boundaries. Despite significant normative and programmatic advances—such as the Maria da Penha Law and the Femicide Law in Brazil, as well as similar legislation in other countries—the effectiveness of combating policies remains incipient. Although studies have advanced significantly in recent decades, the literature remains marked by fragilities and gaps, focusing on general diagnoses or normative descriptions, with scarce evidence-based work. This gap hinders the consolidation of comparative parameters, as well as the formulation of more effective and sustainable policies.

Thematic Scope

The dossier seeks to gather analyses that present evidence on the effectiveness of public policies for prevention, protection, and accountability, discussing their results, institutional limits, and the innovations that have been developing. The aim is to articulate interdisciplinary perspectives (law, political science, sociology, gender studies, criminology) and comparative approaches (Latin American and international experiences) to deepen the debate on the implementation and impacts of such policies.
